Empusion by Olga Tokarczuk

In Olga Tokarczuk's first novel since winning the Nobel Prize, a polish student travels to a sanatorium to treat his tuberculosis. He joins other patients in discussions about world issues like war, democracy, and the existence of devils and demons. Inevitably, the conversations turn to the topic of women: should they be seen as equal individuals, or only understood through men?
